The players and I cheered, and I narrated that on top of the crit damage, the dragon is shoved and is JUST within 10ft of the stove.If all my prep and work for this just yielded this amount of creativity and excitement from the players, then I would say that it was all worth it.If you've read through my wall of text above, I stated that we went for 6.5 hours, a major discrepancy from my initial estimate of 3 hours.Nearing the end of the one-shot, during the Noke and Bed Dragon fight, I was starting to forget details, and I was slowly not able to absorb what the players are saying fully.Earlier, I described the dragon having a face, spine, and legs of wood, hands and feet as pillows, wings as the blanket, and the tip of his tail being a lamp.When the Bard took his turn, he told me he would like to use Heat Metal on the dragon.

My 3 hour one-shot became 6.5 hours total, and I asked the players every after encounter if they were fine with continuing or if they wanted to finish up later.We did end up finishing it (albeit more than twice over the scheduled time), although one player had to leave during the last encounter as they had a class during that time.Simple prep is preparing the monster stats and their general AI. However, I found that I usually don't get scared up until a few minutes before the event itself.
