But, coyotes are really really bashful and seldom take on anything larger than a mouse or rabbit. They have very strong jaws, and they can hold on for a long time. Speaking from personal experience, and assuming we’re talking a one-on-one confrontation, and assuming we’re talking about a pit bull with some degree of prey drive and/or gameness, then the pit bull hands down.

A pack of even three coyotes will attack the very young or very old/sick of many larger species. I think that if you let you Pit of the chain then he has a better chance to kill the coyote but if you decided to keep him on a chain than he has no way to get away from him and defend him selfYes, a pit could lose in a fight to coyote, especially if he's attached to a chain and cannot get to safety.You should not leave your dog outside tied to a chain for long periods of time anyway.Probably!
But they also only weigh about 30-40 pounds and the chances of them attacking your dog is pretty slim. Move over Lassie. The dog pushed the children aside, putting her 50-pound body between them and the snake. those things are huge. Seriously though, a pit bull would probably kick a pure-bred coyotes butt at least 80% of the time. As often the case, negative stories always seem to get National coverage, where the positive stories only make the local news. They're strong and fast, and while coyotes may be fast, I don't think they would match any big dog in strength, pit bull or not.BTW, please don't leave your pit bull outside for any length of time.
Usually, animals left on a chain are normally forgotten about in time except to be thrown food once a day. But, coyotes travel in packs, especially at night. Put up a fence or attach a dog house to the garage so that coyotes and other predators cannot get in. Man makes dogs bite .
The Media is not always very responsible with their stories!
They have very good drive which keeps them focused on what they are doing. Where I live we have a mixed breed of eastern wolf, timber wolf and coyote so they can get pretty large.A pitbull.
