The L weighs a whooping 322 lbs. Don’t place wagers on who will get to the top first, and don’t expect to skim Supercross whoops. But the original pre-1995 XR250R engine was wet-sump and the current XR250 Tornado engine is dry-sump, so I find it a bit confusing in terms of fitment (see link below). The ONLY thing the CRF230F has that is better is Bruce's forks... But the r and x are better bikes if you are not going to be on the street. Though the engines required relentless clutch work and proper gear selection at all times they were amazing machines and scary fast, even in slow short tight sections because we used 13-tooth counter sprockets. The two with stock engines are geared 14/50 and 14/45. But I wouldn’t mind having the 250rx!
So Im going to buy a new CRF250F. Today I would bet I am far faster on my little CRF230F in slow short tight sections but that is not because the engine is "better" or because its stroke is so much longer than old XR265R. I don't wanna know from everyone which bike I shoulda bought ..I was just lookin for the difference too.....from someone who isn't blowin smoke. I do enjoy climbing some steep hills though. Another with only xr fork and shock. It will not get there as fast but it will get there if the climb is within reason and you choose and keep good lines. A pre-'96 XR250 is still a better bike than a CRF230 and a '96 and up XR250R is WAY better than a CRF230.
